Photographed in the golden hush of an English evening, this image captures a lone tree standing against a sky alive with movement.
For six years, I passed this tree nearly every day while living and working on a farm in Somerset, quietly planning to capture its striking silhouette one day.
In 2011, the perfect moment finally arrived. As the sun descended behind the horizon, I noticed a swirl of clouds forming directly above and behind the tree — a rare and compelling composition. The tree’s trunk partially obscured the setting sun, casting a long, dramatic shadow.
I pulled over immediately, set up my tripod, and seized the opportunity I had envisioned for so long.
This photograph is more than an image; it fulfils patient observation and reminds me of a significant chapter in my life in the English countryside.
